YAFF will be exhibiting films created by Young filmmakers  (Under 28). The

festival includes international categories and will feature films from other countries as

well as Australia, with all the categories for outstanding excellence stated below:

To honour the spirit and diversity of the upcoming talent in Australia, These awards are open to creatives from any fields to celebrate films that explore diversity and the ideas of storytellers who haven’t had as strong a platform to express their voices:

(Please note that these special awards are subject to the amount of submissions provided, and may not go ahead if there are not enough entries to fill up a category)

Groundbreaking Women in Film

To be eligible, your film must meet one of the following criteria:

- One Above the Line Role be filled by a woman (Writer, Director or Producer)

- Two HOD Roles filled by a woman (1st AD, Cinematography, Production Design, Editing, Sound, Gaffer or Lead Actor)

- Revolve around women's issues or themes and showcase a female protagonist.

Remarkable Acheivement in LGBTQIA+ Storytelling

To be eligible, your film must meet one of the following criteria:

- One Above the Line Role be filled by someone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ (Writer, Director or Producer)

- Two HOD Roles filled by someone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ (1st AD, Cinematography, Production Design, Editing, Sound, Gaffer or Lead Actor)

- Revolve around LGBTQIA+ issues or themes and showcase an LGBTQIA protagonist.

Astounding Work of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Filmmaker

To be eligible, your film must meet one of the following criteria:

- One Above the Line Role be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (Writer, Director or Producer)

- Two HOD Roles filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander  (1st AD, Cinematography, Production Design, Editing, Sound, Gaffer or Lead Actor)

- Revolve around Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander issues or themes and showcase a First Nation or Torres Strait Islander protagonist.

Extraordinary International/Foreign Language Film

To be eligible,

Your film must have been made in any country outside of Australia. Any films in languages other than English MUST have English Subtitles in order to be eligible.

Immaculate work of Under 18's

To be eligible,

Your film's principle shoot must have taken place either whilst being a High School Student or under the age of 18.
